SNOW DAY SUGGESTIONS
The ‘Beast from the East’ has hit and we are currently on ‘snow day’ number three so I thought it would be fun to write a quick post covering some of the activities which have kept us occupied these past few days.
Snowman building
An extremely obvious one, but a snow day isn't really a snow day without a bit of snowman building! And the obligatory ‘do you want to build a snowman’ Facebook post! Heres one we made earlier ….
Games
Orchard games are our favourite at the moment and we have a nice little collection since Christmas. ‘Little Bus Lotto’ and ‘Wheres My Cupcake’ have been our go to games this week. I love that all Orchard games have a learning element to them as well as being good fun. There’s something very cosy about playing board games when the weathers cold or wet outside!
Cupcake making
I always try to have a couple of cupcake making kits in the cupboard for rainy days and they certainly come in handy on snowy days too! I usually pick them up when I see them on offer whilst doing the food shop. E has always preferred the decorating to the making of the cakes themselves so when she was younger I used to bake them whilst she was down for a nap so that they had time to cool for decorating once she woke up. These days she has a little more patience and likes to help me with both parts. And of course with cupcake making there’s always the added bonus of eating them afterwards!
Den Building
What little one doesn't like building dens?! And a snow day is the perfect opportunity to build a den, fill it with cosy blankets and cushions and read some of your favourite books.
Bringing the snow indoors
Snow fun without enduring the cold temperature and wearing 10 layers! I bought the plastic tray off of a local selling page last summer to use for water activities in the garden and it worked perfectly for this, but you could use anything really, a washing up bowl, baking tray, mixing bowl etc. E loved using her toy animals and Kinetic Sand tools, but again the sky is the limit. This was a really fun way to play with the snow and one that I know we will be doing again tomorrow if the snow is still here. You may want to pop gloves on them to prevent their hands from getting too cold and make sure you cover the area in towels or blankets to prevent the floor from getting slippery.
I hope this quick post has given you a couple of ideas. Enjoy the last of the snow and stay safe x
