STICK MAN LIVE ON STAGE AT THE HERTFORD THEATRE
My little one is a huge fan of both the Stick Man book and TV adaptation so when I saw tickets for Stick Man Live at the Hertford Theatre it was a no brainer for me to book the tickets! This was our first trip to Hertford Theatre and we were really impressed with it. It has a very intimate feel to it, is very clean and well presented and the size felt just right with tiered seating which means that you should have a good view of the stage pretty much wherever you sit. Drinks and snacks can be purchased in the foyer to have pre show or to take in with you and there was plenty of members of staff around to direct you to your seats etc all of whom were extremely friendly and helped add to the excitement for the little ones (and the grown up ones!)
So onto the show itself!…
What a fantastic show! My little one was mesmerised from start to finish. I could have sat and just watched her face the whole way through. It’s such an imaginative show and the 3 actors/actresses are fantastic and really draw you in with their different voices and facial expressions. The music is really catchy and we found ourselves still humming it the next day. The audience participation was really fun with the inflatable ball part (this will make sense when you see the show) being a particular hit with my daughter as she caught it (with Daddy’s help) and got to throw it back which she was very proud of! It had a bit of a pantomime feel without being too OTT which made it really fun to be involved, but didn't take away from the show in any way. The show is about an hour long which felt like the perfect length of time and with the tickets working out at £36.00 for 2 adults and 1 child it felt like really good value for money.
My only very small criticism is that I would have liked there to be a merchandise stall where we could have purchased an audio CD or something to continue the fun at home!
What did my 2 year old think?
Mummy: Did you have fun at the Stick Man show?
E: Yes, I caught the ball!
Mummy: What was your best bit?
E: The funny doggy!
My tips:
1) There is no parking at the theatre itself, we parked in the multi story car park, which was around a 4 minute walk from the theatre. I have also heard that the car park next to the Hertford Castle on St Andrews Street is only a short walk. Both of which I believe are pay and display so don't forget to factor that into your trip.
2) Pick up a booster seat from the bottom of the stairs when entering the theatre, these really help the little ones get a good view.
3) We really liked being in the tiered seating as we felt it gave us a better view and I would recommend sitting fairly near the front if you want to have a chance of catching the ball during the beach scene. We were sat on Row H which we recommend.
4) We purchased our daughter a Stick Man soft toy from Amazon on the run up to the show so that she could take it with her on the day, which was a huge hit and I was glad we did as there wasn't anywhere on the day to buy anything like that. Its certainly not a necessity, but added to the experience for us and Stick Man has been on many an outing with us since!
All in all I would have to give this show a 5/5! We would defiantly go to see it again and we look forward to continuing our theatre experiences in the future.
